Friday night dins at Sunda.

Saturday morning boat cruise. . .followed by some shopping perhaps? (Who am I kidding. . .I'll be with C and HLR and we are HORRIBLE influences on each other. . .most definitely shopping will be on the agenda.)

And then we'll start the evening at Big Star (on the patio, hopefully!). . .who knows where we'll end up.

Sunday is saved for lounging at the pool and nursing our hangovers at brunch. Not too shabby.

Who Knew?

HLR and I were walking around National Harbor on Sunday and she takes me here:

There is a Peeps store in Maryland. Full of Peeps stuff, including Peeps art. I don't really like Peeps, so HLR thought this little trip was extra appropriate.

(That masterpiece is $50 if you were wondering.)

Apparently I like pasta?

I have never been the biggest pasta fan, but after this weekend, it seems that my taste buds have changed! Not sure that's for the better, but. . .

When we got home from our night out on Saturday night, HHS made us a delicious bowl of whole wheat pasta with olive oil, salt, pepper and parmesean cheese. Don't know if it was the beer talking, but it was the best late night food I had eaten in a long time! Hah, thanks HHS. . .

On Sunday night we all went to HLR's family's house outside of DC for the most delicious dinner and absolutely hilarious night. We literally sat at the table from 7 p.m. until almost midnight. LOVE MY FRIENDS ! Ha.

So, back to the dinner. HLR and I helped her mom with Jamie Oliver's Proper Bloke's Sausage Fusilli. (An HLR family favorite!)

We tripled the recipe (there were 8 of us, so that was completely necessary. . .not.), and if we had stayed at the table any longer (or had a bottle or two more of wine), I think we would have polished off the tripled recipe. . .eek! The dish was easy, and perfectly paired with a simple side salad.

Ingredients:

• 2 heaped teaspoons fennel seeds
• 2 dried red chilies, crumbled
• olive oil
• 600g good-quality coarse Italian or Cumberland sausages
• 1 tablespoon dried oregano
• a wineglass of white wine
• zest and juice of 1 lemon
• 500g good-quality fusilli or penne
• sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
• a couple of knobs of butter
• a handful of freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving
• a small bunch of fresh flat-leaf parsley, leaves picked and chopped

Directions (remember these are in Jamie's words. . .):

Bash up the fennel seeds and chilies in a pestle and mortar or flavor Shaker until coarsely crushed, then put to one side. Heat a splash of olive oil in a heavy-bottomed frying pan. Squeeze the meat out of the sausage skins and put into the pan, really breaking it up using the back of a spoon. Fry for a few minutes until the meat starts to color and the fat has rendered slightly, then crush it once more so it resembles coarse mince. Add the bashed-up fennel seeds and chilies and cook on a medium heat for around 10 minutes until the meat becomes crisp, golden brown and slightly caramelized.

Stir in your oregano, then pour in the white wine and allow it to reduce by half. Add the lemon zest and juice. Turn the heat down to low while you cook your pasta in a large pan of salted boiling water according to the packet instructions. When the pasta has cooked al dente, drain it in a colander, reserving some of the cooking water, and toss it in the pan with your sausagemeat. Coat the pasta in all the lovely flavors then add the butter, Parmesan, chopped parsley and a few spoonfuls of the reserved cooking water. This will give you a lovely loose, shiny sauce. Taste and check for seasoning, then serve immediately with a little extra grated Parmesan sprinkled over the top.

Do we really have to wait until January 24??

Even though I started GG last night 25 minutes into the show (ahem, thanks, C. . .), I still found Daily Intel's take on the show hilarious.

A few favorites from their recap:

• Blair doesn’t know how to drive. Plus 10.

• Serena, to Juliet: “And then you just left me for dead, in a motel room? Why, because of Nate? Or Colin?”
Juliet: “No, you stupid bitch, because you destroyed my brother’s life!” Plus 10, because how many people on this show have been wanting to call Serena a stupid bitch and haven’t?

• Chuck: “Good-bye, friends, Dan.” Plus 1.

• In an amazing triumph of set design, Lily is in a picture over Chuck’s left shoulder wearing the EXACT dress and earrings — and hairdo — she is wearing at the moment of the confrontation. No points, but, wow. I noticed this last night too and immediately texted C. I mean come ON, GG. Get it together.

• Serena's impassioned speech to Lily about how she put the wrong man in prison is undercut by her cameltoe. Minus 2.

HLR missed the show too and she has asked that we watch the episode upon her arrival in Chicago on Friday. So happy she's traveling 758 miles to watch a DVR'd CW drama. . .HA.

The Bourb.

I've been eyeing this cocktail for a few weeks.

Thinking of making it next weekend when HLR and C-Mac are here. On our sorority's annual Christmas caroling night senior year, C-Mac was infamously overserved. . .bourbon & cider was her downfall. I am planning on recreating that night next Saturday (minus the "Baby It's Cold Outside"). Be prepared, C-Mac!

Real Simple's Bourbon Ginger Snap.


Directions

1. In a large saucepan, combine 2 quarts water, 1 cup fresh lemon juice, 1 cup honey, and a 3-inch piece of fresh ginger (peeled and sliced); bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Strain into a large bowl; let cool.
2. Add 6 cups fresh orange juice, 4 cups pear nectar, 1 liter bourbon, and 2 lemons (thinly sliced). Refrigerate for up to 6 hours. Serve over ice.

Poop.

An email conversation with our friends from college that is too good not to share.

Subject: Poop Terrorism

I just heard this hilarious story from my friend. His friend, let's call her Amanda, finally hooked up with the guy she's been dating for a few weeks now. In the morning, the guy leaves for work, Amanda, unemployed, stays in bed but gets up to go to the bathroom. She ends up pooping and clogs the toilet. She tries a plunger to no avail. She then gets two zip lock bags and scoops the poop out of the toilet into the bags. She leaves the bags on the guy's kitchen table and goes back to bed.

skip ahead a few hours, Amanda leaves the apartment, walking outside realizes she LEFT THE ZIPLOC BAGS ON THE KITCHEN TABLE. She hysterically cried to the door man but he wouldn't let her up. The poop remains on the table and she has not spoken to the guy.

Would you even TELL people you did this? now people like me hear the story and tell everyone.



HHS: WAIT a second...is this an urban legend? I've heard this same exact story before...


C: OMG this story is hilarious.

Also---why wouldnt she just leave the poop in the toilet. Like lets be honest, he probs would have thought he or one of his roommates did it....


C: No, HHS. You have told a version of this story about that girl on your swim team who pooped INTO a plastic bag.

R: OR the story of KC's RA freshman year who pooped in the hallway on the way to the shower and picked up her poop and put it into her shower caddy...


HHS: yeah, no I am aware of both of those stories...im saying i have IN ADDITION TO hear this one as well..that makes 3 poop stories for me.


KK: HAHAHAA I'm laughing at my desk.

OK- first of all, no. Why would you scoop your poop and then PUT IT ON THE KITCHEN TABLE?!?!? That is unbelieveably unsanitary and there's obviously doodie water all over those bags. Why didn't she hide it at the bottom of the trash can or throw it out the window or something?! ANYTHING other than put it on the kitchen table.

Idiot.


C: Can we please reveal who amanda really is? I want to judge her more than i already am....


MCG: And how could you go back to sleep after that?? I don't believe it. Too many holes in the story. No pun intended.


H-Ster: I just spewed water all over my computer from laughing so hard.

What is WRONG with people? the fact that we have at least 4 similar poop stories is crazy!


H-Ster: So that first story came out at happy hour last night. And another guy had a funny poop story too.

A guy came in for an interview at his company last week. He sits through rounds of interviews and asks by the end if he can be excused to go to the bathroom. They say no, we're heading to HR first. On the way to HR, the guy turns around and starts running down the hall - poop is falling out of his pants. My friend's boss was so mortified that the kid shat his pants bc he didn't let him go to the bathroom!!! that he went to the Gap, bought the guy a new pair of boxers and pants, and brought them to the men's room. They also had to quarantine the hallway because of his feces droppings.


KK: What I don't understand is how poop just falls out of people like this.
