Not all of you may have the same obsession with fonts, cute colors, etc., but I thought I'd share this with you. . .

Do I have a problem?

Ok, ok. By now, we ALL know my obsession with gummies (here too). But something fishy is going on in my office. Last week, for no apparent reason, my coworker gave me two packages of Haribos! So freaking nice! AND it was her birthday that week! So, naturally, I had to scramble to get her a present because, I mean, she should not be giving me gifts during her birthday week, ya know??

Then, this morning, another coworker walks in and just randomly gives me two packages of LifeSaver gummies! Like. . .what?!

I'm not complaining - this is totally amazing - but it does make me question my gummy-eating habits. . .

Detox?

To say that coming back to work today was rough would be an enormous understatement.

First, I get into work only to find that Blogger has been blocked. Huge sad face. Pair that with serious withdrawal from C and everyone else in NYC and you've got one unhappy R. Long weekends are so amazing until you are back at your desk on Tuesday.

We had such a fun weekend in New York. So fun, in fact, that I received this text from my mom on Sunday night:

Mom: detox tomorrow?

Eeeek. Mother knows best. Detox is right. And I did start it yesterday! P and I met up at DMK for a quick bite last night and I didn't even order an Allagash! (Gasp!)

This would happen to me.

Here's a Friday morning story for ya.

This morning I went to this coffee for a coworker. I didnt know everyone there because it was a mix of coworkers / her friends. So I am meeting people, shaking hands, etc. and I get to this one woman and I go to shake her hand, and she was holding a cup of coffee in her left hand and she kinda put out one finger out to "shake my hand." I thought, "Hmmm that's strange she didn't use her right hand to shake. Oh welp."

About 2 minutes later she turns around and I realize SHE DOESN'T HAVE A RIGHT ARM.

I felt soo awkward.

Happy Friday!

Office Yoga. . .?

Well my afternoon will be interesting. My office has decided that we all need a little "wellness" in our lives, and have therefore developed a Wellness Program. First up is a yoga class for the entire office from 3:45 - 4:45 this afternoon. Though I am definitely excited to ditch my desk early today, I think the scene will be a tad awkward. There's something about doing downward dog next to your 55-year-old coworker that irks me a bit. In fact, there's something about males doing yoga in general that makes me squirm. (Sorry, Dad if you were planning on going to yogs with Mom in the near future. . .)

A girl in my pilates class I (try to) go to on Saturday mornings always brings her boyfriend to the class. Ugh. The day P steps into a yoga studio. . .yikesss. No thanks.

I wish I could say I'll post pics of this afternoon's class, but, let's face it, no one wants to see that.

cookie monster.

I kind of hate when coworkers bring in food to work. I mean, there are definitely days when I appreciate it (like when I open my yogurt after the due date and find it like with weird bumps on top - see below - and have to text this picture to C and HLR to make sure it's ok to eat. . .then I eat a few bites and it tastes sour so I am thankful for the Dunkin Donuts munchkins that were brought in that morning), but for the most part, I am not a fan.

Here's why: I generally try to eat healthy. (Generally being the key word. . .sigh.) I also generally try to be nice. (Again, key word = generally. Oops.) Put those two together and it's a tough life when my coworkers bring in baked goods ALL.THE.TIME. I just feel bad saying "no thanks!" I also work with several middle-aged women who probs think I'm an annoying 20-something girl who cares too much about what she eats. So, I don't want to sound anorex by turning down their food every time. Therefore, I accept their goodies more often than not.

This morning, the woman who sits next to me brought in iced sugar cookies that looked like little lady bugs. Yes, the little bug cookie looked delish, but no, I did not want a cookie at 8:15 a.m. Butttt I accepted and proceeded to eat it.

Since I was satisfied by my nibbling, I tried to restrain myself from eating more. Didn't work. Accidentally ate off all the lady bug spots and one eye.

Aaaand then I couldn't stop so I ravaged it. And clearly I couldn't throw it away beacuse she sits right next to me so just had to keep on chowin downnn. Dilemma!!

Oh, and don't worry. I documented all of this so I could update C on my cookie status. Is our relationship unhealthy?

Wet Bandits

You know in Home Alone the burglars call themselves the Wet Bandits because they always leave the water on in the homes they ransack to "mark their territory"?

These guys:

Well. My office has a Wet Bandit on its hands today! This morning, I walked into th bathroom and saw the water was running and the sink was literally on the verge of overflowing. I ran to turn it off just in the nick of time. I thought it was a little strange, but whatevs.

THEN, just now, my coworker walked in and said that she was just in the bathroom and the water was on and the sink was about to overflow!!

HOW WEIRD?!

Something fishy is going on. . .

Secretary's Day

So I get out of the subway (and by subway I mean cab) this morning, and a man, who usually sells newspapers, was selling single roses, and holding a sign that said "Secretary's Day." My first thought....WOW. Second thought...will I be getting a rose?! Think again. However, I did have the New York Post on my desk this morning, instead of the usual Wall Street Journal! That was more exciting that one would imagine!

And just in case I didn't remember that I wipe peoples asses for a living, H-Ster sent me this lovely someecard. (It's true..I try to tell myself that I'm not a secretary...but I am. Single Tear).

To the rest of you "secretaries" out there, Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

Rant.

Sorry, but I need to rant for a hot minute.

I put a Diet Coke in the office fridge before I left last night. When I went to put in my yogurt this morning, it was still there - great. This afternoon, I left my desk for all of TEN MINUTES and came back with a craving for my DC. I head to the fridge and what do I find? Not a Diet Coke, that's for sure (see that one coming?)

Wahhhhhh. I know I sound like a total baby for complaining about this, but seriously? Not only did someone steal my pop (yes, I say pop not soda), but the act seems deceivingly deliberate! The fact that I came back and it was gone. . .that is rather fishy.

I have a suspicion of who took it, and a few minutes ago I heard a can open from her office (coincidence?). . .

I know this happens to people in the workplace all the time, but this is my first, so let me be a baby about it. Thanks.

Ughh.

Warning

If you work with me, please do not try and make small talk with me today. As a matter of facts, don't even try pausing near my desk. I will ignore you. That is, unless you are coming over to tell me that I can go home.

Until then, please stay away.

boredom in the workplace (at its finest)

"Im bored" has been the most repeatedly typed phrase on my computer screen today. Ask anyone on my gchat contact list. SO BORED. You would think that this might turn into something productive like finding a great new website to share with the world...but no.

My bosses left last night for a ski trip, and will not be returning to the office until Tuesday. Usually when the bosses leave the office, the "men" on the trading floor behave like they are in the 6th grade and their teacher has called in sick, and they couldn't find a substitute teacher to tame the class. While this has been the case for some of the day, it wasn't nearly as entertaining as I had anticipated.

Thus, to entertain myself (and you), I have decided to keep a running tab of sorts, of all the un-important things i have done today. These things are what my job consists of...lots and lots of meaningless tasks.

8:30- Got to work on time. Not sure why, considering people strolled in between the hours of 9 and 10. But nevertheless, I was here at 8:30. As a matter of facts, one of the analysts told me he was proud of me for coming in at all. THANKS for that.

9-11:00- Phone rings roughly 5 times. 2 calls were bankers, whom I instructed not to call back until tuesday, 2 were my bosses friends, whom i instructed the same thing, and one was someone who thought they were calling Social Security (we get that one a lot...along with Domino's Pizza)

11:15-D (one of the analysts), asked me to call Bobby Van's Steakhouse, and see if they would deliver steak sandwiches with lots of sides for lunch. Once I informed him that they were each $26.00, he changed his plan and decided to eat "street meat" for lunch.

11:45- I have a panic attack, because I hear a door slam, and think it is the door to my bosses office. Knowing that they are not at the office, I automatically assume that someone (A) has gone into their office to either snoop around, or just to look cool. Both things that A would do.

1:00-I go get some lunch. Nothing exciting, just a salad. Ended up throwing it out because the carrots were frozen and the dressing looked like a result of a bodily function (you're welcome for that image).

1:30- D asks me to do him a favor. I am handed a $20.00 bill, and asked to go down the street and get Coconut Water. Not just any Coconut Water. He wants Vita Coco. The one that doesn't have all the "junk" floating around in it. Seeing as im not exactly the pro on coconut water, I decide to just take the money and go. But before I can get out the door, there is another request for Pepperidge Farm cookies. No nuts. D is "allergic" to nuts. I should have gotten the only one that had nuts just to spite him.

3:00-D asks me to come to the trading floor because he has a REALLY important/serious question for me. Looking at him with sceptical, I walk over to his side of the office. As I get over there, he proceeds to ask me what I think about John Mayer....is THIS his serious question?! Not only does he want to know whether or not I like his music or if i think he is hot, he wants me to answer why Jennifer Aniston dated him. WHAT makes him think I know the answer to that question?! I am not Jennifer Aniston, am I? NO. If I were Jennifer Aniston, I sure as hell wouldn't be sitting in this office answering phones and blogging about my day to day office "actitivies"

4:00-Send a few emails out to some friends, seeing if they want to do something tonight. This is a desperate plea for some social contact, with people that don't work in my office. No positive responses. Clearly nobody is as bored as I am.

4:23- As I am writing this log of my day. A calls me on my line to run something by me. She is running in a race with a friend from college. She wants to make shirts for the race, and needed an idea for a catchy slogan for the front of the shirt. Some of her ideas: "2 slow 2 win. 2 dumb 2 quit," "Running Our ASSets off," and something about "ASSphalt." The back of her friends shirt will read "Super Wife. Super Mom of 3." The back of A's shirt will read "Super Single" or "Call me." In case you hadn't picked up on it, she is single. I really hope she doesn't read this.

4:30-Here begins the countdown of the last 30 minutes of work.

All time unaccounted for was filled with hoping something new and exciting would pop up on facebook, or listening to music on Grooveshark.

Happy Birthday! Love, This Weird Copper Cat

Not to bring up cats again, but...today a birthday card was circulated around the office for everyone to sign for a coworker's birthday. No big deal, right? Well, it becomes a big deal when the birthday card looks like this:

I'm sorry, but what?? WHAT is this? This is 100% not a birthday card. I can't even tell you what the card is intended for - there isn't even anything written on the inside. It is literally just a card with a copper cat splayed on a wire door. Oh, and the wire is real - heavy, metal wire with a copper cat attached to it, on a paper card. The interesting thing is, no one else in the office thinks this is the least bit abnormal. And it's really bothering me.
